A coffee tasting of winey, berries, and mango.

Elmer comes from a poor family and has big dreams. His life in the coffee world began in 2012. He knew nothing about coffee production, so he took advantage of a training opportunity and that's where his interest in searching for land to cultivate coffee began. He seized the opportunity when an aunt sold him a portion of what is now "Finca El Bordo." Previously, the land was used to grow corn or beans, but due to the altitude and  training, he saw the potential that existed for coffee production.

Acquiring the land for Elmer was not so difficult, as he was able to buy it with his savings, but the real challenge was starting to plant the coffee trees and carrying out maintenance because he had to go into debt to do this. Currently, another challenge is the labor during the coffee harvest. Many people who were dedicated to this activity have emigrated, which affects the entire national coffee industry.

Elmer leverages his coffee training, his geographical location, and the rich variety of coffees he produces to focus on specialty coffees. He has been experimenting with honey processes and believes that, after a long period of experimentation, he has come to the conclusion that it is time to expand the range of specialty coffees he offers.

Update 2023: In the 2022-2023 season, Elmer expanded his farm with two thousand more coffee plants of the Parainema, Lempira, and Ihcafe 90 varieties, and for the following season, he plans to continue with another two thousand plants, thus increasing the volume of production.

He is working towards building his own wet mill he projects that if he continues selling his specialty coffee, he estimates that by the 2024-2025 season, he will be able to achieve his goal. This will allow him to have better control over the processing of his coffee and ensure better safety measures. That's why, with the funds obtained from the sale of his coffee, a portion of it is saved for the purchase of his pulping machine, which has an estimated cost of $1200.
