The Bensa Logita mill was purchased by Heleanna Georgalis and her Moplaco export operation in 2017. Heleanna knew that working more closely with producers would provide a mutual gain and elevate the quality of offerings from the area.
Rising above the tall eucalyptus trees and wide cactus surrounding unpaved roads, Kokosa is a mountain that overlooks the washing station. Land elevation in the woreda climbs to 2,300 metres which cools temperatures overnight, slowing the maturation of coffee fruit and intensifying flavor.
To produce this coffee, ripe cherries were delivered to the Moplaco Bensa Logita washing station by farmers in the surrounding area (a group of approx. 10-20). This lot underwent a natural process. Cherries were sorted, washed clean, floated and then set to sun dry for 15-20 days on raised African beds.
